Siphamandla is a PhD student in Media Studies at the University of Cape Town, South Africa (expected in 2017). He is a highly motivated and academically capable candidate with a Master of Arts: Multimedia Journalism Broadcast (Merit), from the University of Westminster London, United Kingdom. Siphamandla is a 2013/2014 Chevening/Canon Collins Trust scholar. He holds an Honours Degree in International Relations (Cum-Laude): University of KwaZulu-Natal, a Bachelor of Technology degree: Journalism and a National Diploma: Journalism both obtained from the Durban University of Technology, South Africa. He has and a certificate (non-academic) in the Essentials of Newspaper Management obtained from Rhodes University.
Siphamandla has been in the media industry for more than a decade and has worked for leading print and electronic media houses in the country. He currently works as a Reporter for South Africa’s biggest privately owned TV Channel, eNews Channel Africa (eNCA). Prior to this, he worked as a Financial Reporter for Business Report, South Africa’s national financial daily based in Johannesburg, Gauteng Province. Between 2008 – 2014 he worked for the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), presenting an hour long daily current affairs show, on SABC’s biggest radio station uKhozi FM. He covered domestic and international politics, economics, general news and sport. Prior to joining the SABC, he worked for Independent Newspapers: KwaZulu-Natal as a journalist covering crime, court, and politics. In 2012, Siphamandla was voted the Best Traditional and Cultural News Journalist (Electronic Media) during the 7th South African Traditional Music Awards.
